Blunt Asks McKenna to Remain on Transportation Commission; Continues Push for Mississippi River Bridge
JEFFERSON CITY–Governor Matt Blunt today announced that Bill McKenna (D) has agreed to continue serving on the State Highway and Transportation Commission after his term expires in March. Blunt has asked McKenna to continue to serve until the question of how to build the Mississippi River Bridge is resolved.
“Bill McKenna has been a leader for Missouri on transportation issues and I am thrilled that he agreed to stay,” Blunt said. “Bill believes as I believe that building a new bridge over the Mississippi River is important to Missouri’s future as well as jobs and economic growth. We have said that we are willing to work with anyone who is committed as we are to this important project. I appreciate the public service of the McKenna family and I look forward to working with Bill as we resolve this issue.”
Bill McKenna, of Crystal City, was appointed to the commission in 2001. His term is set to expire March 1, 2007, but at Blunt’s request, he will continue serving on the commission as they continue their efforts to facilitate a new Mississippi River Bridge.
The State Highway and Transportation Commission is a six-member bipartisan board that guides the Missouri Department of Transportation. Commission members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Missouri Senate. The term on the commission is six years.
