Blunt Signs Legislation Designating a Portion of I-55 in St. Louis County
ST. LOUIS–Gov. Matt Blunt today held a ceremonial bill signing at the St. Louis County Courthouse Memorial Gardens for Senate Bill 1059 and House Bill 1488.
Senate Bill 1059 sponsored by Sen. Harry Kennedy and House Bill 1488 sponsored by Rep. Jeff Roorda designates a portion of I-55 between Butler Hill Road and Meramec Bottom Road in St. Louis County as the Officer Thomas G. Smith Jr. Memorial Highway. Officer Smith, with the St. Louis County Police, was killed in the line of duty in 1997 while assisting a fellow officer.
Blunt signed the legislation on June 29 and took effect on August 28.
