Meth Incidents in Missouri Continue to Decrease

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt is pleased to announce that meth incidents in Missouri have continued to decrease since his tough anti-meth bill took effect last year limiting the sales of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, ingredients used to produce the drug.

“Over the past two months, new tools in the fight against methamphetamine have helped slash the number of incidents in our state in half. Users and producers are getting the message that meth and its far-reaching degradation will not be tolerated,” Blunt said. “We will continue to be aggressive in our efforts to wipe out the scourge of meth from our state. At one point Missouri led the nation in the number of meth lab incidents, but this is one ranking I want our state to be dead last.”

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) reported a 60 percent decrease in meth incidents in February 2006 compared to February 2005. The number of meth incidents in January 2006 decreased by 57 percent compared to January 2005.

The MSHP reported since Missouri’s new meth law took effect, meth incidents have declined on average of 45 percent.
