Blunt Names Morrow Ombudsman for Office of Child Advocate

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt named Stephen C. Morrow ombudsman for the Office of the Child Advocate for Children’s Protection and Services.

"Stephen Morrow will be a strong advocate for Missouri’s children," Blunt said. "His leadership experience and involvement in education will be a great asset as he assumes his new duties as child advocate."

Morrow, 56 of Bolivar, served as the chief Student Life Officer, vice president for Student Development until Dec. 2004 at Southwest Baptist University. Morrow holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Southwest Baptist University and a master’s of administration from the University of Missouri.

The child advocate reports directly to the commissioner of the Office of Administration. The job of the child advocate is to ensure that children receive sufficient protection and care from services and programs offered by the Departments of Social Services and Mental Health, and the Juvenile Court.

"We are pleased to see the state’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of services we provide to our children in need. We in the Judiciary will continue to do our part to protect Missouri’s children from abuse and neglect," said Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael A. Wolff.

Morrow replaces Mary McEniry, whose term expired, for a term ending on Dec. 7, 2010. Morrow’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
