Blunt Directs Department to Examine Non-Emergency Medical Transport Procedures
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today directed the Department of Social Services to conduct a thorough examination into non-emergency transport services, following the death of a Republic man.
"My heartfelt sympathies go out to Willie Reed’s family and friends. I understand they want answers, and so do I," Blunt said. "I have directed the department to immediately conduct a full examination into this contracted service, review all related policies and procedures, and report back to me before the end of the month."
Blunt expects the examination to consider and review pertinent factors that are unknown at this time. The department will work with local officials to finalize the report they will ultimately present to the governor. The report will likely include information from the local medical examiner’s office, a timeline of events, details of the contractor’s responsibilities, and analysis and recommendations for further action.
