Blunt Orders Flags Flown at Half-staff in Memory of Pope John Paul II
JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri Governor Matt Blunt today announced that all flags at state facilities in Missouri will be flown at half-staff to honor the memory of Pope John Paul II.
"It was faith that made Pope John Paul II extraordinary, and it is that same faith that will now strengthen Catholic families and other Missourians who mourn this great loss," Blunt said. "Pope John Paul II was a tireless advocate for human freedom, and I like many Missourians admire his role in the collapse of tyranny in Eastern Europe. He also was a constant voice reminding us all of the sanctity of human life and inherent human dignity."
Flags will remain at half-staff for nine days.
