Blunt Orders Flags Flown at Half-staff in Memory of Rep. Otto Bean

JEFFERSON CITY–Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt today directed that all flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff to honor the memory of Rep. Otto Bean, who passed away Sunday, July 16.

“Otto Bean was a respected and effective legislator and dedicated public servant,” Blunt said. “Melanie’s and my prayers are with Ott’s family and loved ones in this time of mourning. His commitment to Southeast Missouri and the betterment of our state will surely be missed at the Capitol and by all who knew him.”

Rep. Otto Bean Jr., a Republican, represented parts of Dunklin, Butler and Stoddard counties (District 163) in the Missouri House. He was elected to the House in November 2002.

In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Bean was a farmer. He also served in the National Guard for eight years, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant.

Rep. Bean was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Caruthersville, Mo.

A 1956 graduate of Western Military Academy, Rep. Bean received a degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri in 1971.

Born January 1, 1938, in Gideon, Mo., Rep. Bean lived in Holcomb with his wife, Janet Stillman Bean. They have two children: Barry Brent Bean and Jason Stillman Bean.

Flags will remain at half-staff until dusk on the evening of Saturday, July 22nd.
