Blunt Lauds Senate Move to Create More Choices for Cable Consumers
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today commended the Missouri Senate for passing legislation to allow statewide cable franchise agreements. The governor called for the legislation in his State of the State address to help reduce prices and provide more choices for Missourians through increased competition.
“I am pleased that the Missouri State Senate has answered my call to enhance competition and choice in cable services,” said Blunt. “Through this legislation, technology and competition can work together for Missourians to lower prices, increase choice and expand information available in all regions and areas of Missouri”
Senate Bill 284, sponsored by Sen. John Griesheimer, passed the Senate today. Currently, to offer services, cable companies must negotiate individual franchise agreements with local governments. SB284 will streamline the process for new providers to enter the cable market in Missouri.
The House must also pass the bill before it is presented to the governor for his signature.
