Blunt Praises Final Passage of Name Change Legislation
JEFFERSON CITY - The following is a statement from Gov. Matt Blunt on today’s final passage of the name change legislation:
"I would like to congratulate the House and Senate for their hard work in passing this legislation. I also would like to thank the leadership of the University of Missouri and Southwest Missouri State University for their spirit of co-operation that paved the way for this historic legislation. This bill ensures that the University of Missouri will continue to be the state’s premier land grant institution as well as the state’s premier research institution. I also believe that the name of Missouri State University will more accurately reflect SMS’s current role. I look forward to signing this legislation."
