Blunt Encourages Families to Take Advantage of Sales Tax Holiday
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt is encouraging all Missouri families preparing to send their children back-to-school to take advantage of the sales tax holiday on August 4 through August 6.
“This is a great opportunity for Missouri families,” Blunt said. “I want to encourage all parents to take advantage of the sales tax holiday coming up this weekend.”
The sales tax exemption applies to:
- Clothing- any article having taxable value of $100 or less
- School supplies- not to exceed $50 per purchase
- Computer software- taxable value of $350 or less per purchase
- Personal computers- not to exceed $3,500
- Computer peripheral devices- not to exceed $3,500
“Missourians are taxed enough throughout the year,” Blunt said. “I commend the communities that are participating this weekend to provide Missouri families a tax break as they prepare to send their children back-to-school.”
In areas that are not participating in the sales tax holiday, state sales tax will be exempt and only local tax will apply.
