Blunt’s Call for Efficiency Results in Ongoing Savings for OA

JEFFERSON CITY–The Office of Administration’s (OA’s) Division of Facilities Management, Design & Construction (FMDC) recently updated maintenance agreements on printers, servers and copiers as part of their continuing efforts to carry out Gov. Matt Blunt’s directive to improve efficiency and reduce costs to taxpayers. The changes will save approximately $13,300 annually.

In several instances, FMDC discovered a lower cost or improved option to maintain state equipment. Switching maintenance contracts for the state’s servers resulted in savings of $2,309 annually. The division also canceled maintenance agreements on 16 fax machines citing the low cost to replace broken equipment. Canceling the maintenance agreements on the fax machines saved $1,269. Acting on the recommendation of the Information Technology Services Division, maintenance on local printers was canceled because on-site staff can troubleshoot the majority of problems in-house realizing a savings of $2,124.

FMDC also replaced seven full size copiers with small multifunction printer/fax/scanner/copier units that include a three year onsite management agreement with the manufacturer, for a maintenance cost savings of $1,951. The new units replace three pieces of older equipment. The division also canceled maintenance agreements on older copiers because the machines are so outdated that it is more cost effective to replace them than it is fix them. Dropping the agreements resulted in a savings of $5,678.

“No amount of savings is too small,” Blunt said. “I commend the Division of Facilities Management, Design and Construction on their continuing efforts to identify wasteful spending and improve efficiency.”
