Blunt Appoints Schoemehl to Metro Board
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt appointed Vincent C. Schoemehl to the Bi-State Development Agency for the Missouri-Illinois Metropolitan District (Metro).
"As a former mayor Vince Schoemehl has a unique understanding of the St. Louis region and its public transportation infrastructure needs," Blunt said. "I look forward to working with Vince and Metro to improve services for the metropolitan area."
Mr. Schoemehl, 60 of St. Louis City, is president and CEO of Grand Center, Inc. He holds a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Mr. Schoemehl served as mayor of St. Louis from 1981 through 1993. He was involved in the development of the light rail transit program for the St. Louis region.
Mr. Schoemehl's appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on Nov. 11, 2011. He is replacing Harvey Harris.
The Bi-State Development Agency for the Missouri-Illinois Metropolitan District (Metro) is a ten member board, five members each appointed by the governors of Missouri and Illinois, to provide leadership and policy direction for the St. Louis Metropolitan regions public transportation system.
