Statement from Gov. Matt Blunt on State Board of Education’s Call to Evaluate St. Louis Public Schools
The State Board of Education today called for a committee to evaluate the St. Louis Public District.
“I am pleased the board heeded local community concerns and my call to examine every alternative for quick action to bring stability to the St. Louis public schools. Their effort to evaluate the district and protect the best interest of the more than 37,000 Missouri children who rely upon the St. Louis public schools is a step in the right direction. I commend the board members for choosing Frankie Freeman and Dr. William Danforth to head up the evaluation.
“Every child deserves a world class education. I support the State Board of Education’s decision to call on the monitoring committee co-chairs to study the district and commend their efforts to quickly assess how best to restore stability to the district and support the students, parents and educators.”
