Statement from Gov. Matt Blunt on Ethanol Bill Passage

The House and Senate today truly agreed and finally passed legislation enacting a statewide ethanol standard as championed by Gov. Matt Blunt.

“Ethanol and ethanol production have countless benefits, and today General Assembly members planted the seed for our state to capitalize on those benefits. I applaud their hard work and commitment to pass a renewable fuel standard for Missouri, and I am pleased that by 2008 gasoline sold in our state will contain 10 percent ethanol.

“The legislation allows time for Missouri facilities to increase production to meet the increased demand and contains cost considerations that ensure consumers will get the best price at the pump. This fulfills an important promise I made to Missourians as a candidate for governor.

“I am proud your elected leaders have met my call for an E-10 standard. This important legislation will benefit our farm families, provide a lasting boost to our state’s economy, improve our air quality and help secure Missouri’s position on the top tier of ethanol production and utilization.”
