Statement from Gov. Matt Blunt on Missouri HealthNet Proposal
Today, the Departments of Social Services, Mental Health and Health and Senior Services submitted joint recommendations for the governor’s consideration regarding a new healthcare delivery system.
“I appreciate the directors’ and staffs’ diligent work to provide recommendations for our state’s new health care delivery system. I understand their recommendations are built on the foundation created by the joint Medicaid Reform Commission and look forward to working with members of the General Assembly to continue the work they initiated.
“These recommendations provide everyone in the process, including myself, the opportunity to refine opinions and shape what has the potential to become a model of innovation in healthcare delivery for the entire nation. I look forward to the continued public discussion this report will encourage amongst health care providers and concerned Missourians. I am excited about the future of healthcare in Missouri and about the opportunity to create a program that improves health and quality of life for the people it serves.”
The governor will review the recommendations and work with the general assembly to create a system that improves access to healthcare. He is expected to present a formal recommendation to the general assembly early next year.
The agencies’ report is posted on the Department of Social Services Internet site at: http://www.dss.mo.gov/.
