Statement from Gov. Matt Blunt on St. Louis Schools Report

“I appreciate the time that went into today’s report and commend the thoughtful approach of Chancellor Danforth, Frankie Freeman and the other members of the special committee. The St. Louis Public Schools have failed too many of our children. The report is accurate when it says the current crisis demands attention and the majority of the St. Louis region demands change. This district has had six superintendents since 2003, and the school board’s bickering and constant infighting has hurt students and the district.

“I am committed to public schools and to high quality public education for all students and I will work with our state board to take appropriate steps to assist St. Louis in its efforts to improve their schools.”
