Blunt Issues Executive Order to Assist with Storm Recovery

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt issued an executive order today to help Missourians cleanup damage caused by tornadoes, high winds, hail and flooding by allowing the director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to grant waivers to help expedite recovery efforts.

“Today I saw first hand the damage inflicted on Missourians following the recent outbreak of severe weather,” Blunt said. “I have directed the Department of Natural Resources to issue waivers to help facilitate their recovery efforts.”

Executive Order 06-32 gives DNR the discretion to waive laws and rules pertaining to waste disposal and open burning to eliminate debris in Butler, Crawford, Dunklin, Iron, Madison, New Madrid, Perry, Phelps, Reynolds, Ripley, St. Francois and Washington Counties. This executive order will expire on Oct. 23, 2006.

Blunt visited Crosstown in Perry County today to view the destruction and ensure that the state is doing all it can to assist in the recovery efforts. Last Saturday the governor issued Executive Order 06-31 declaring a state of emergency and activating the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan. The executive order also directed state agencies to provide support in affected areas as needed.
