Blunt Suspends Select Regulations, Accommodates Supply Transport to Storm Beaten Areas

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today issued an executive order to ensure Missourians affected by recent severe weather have immediate access to needed supplies as they continue recovery efforts.

“Missouri communities pummeled by recent storms are just beginning to pick up the pieces and rebuild their neighborhoods, schools and businesses” Blunt said. “Today's executive order ensures storm victims have the raw materials and supplies they need to put their lives back together by simplifying commercial transport vehicles' efforts to move much needed supplies into affected areas.”

Blunt has directed that commercial motor vehicle regulatory requirements regarding the purchase of trip permits for registration and fuel be waived for commercial motor carriers engaged in intrastate disaster relief efforts in the counties of Andrew, Atchison, Cooper, Dunklin, Holt, Marion, Monroe, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Pettis, Ralls, Shelby, Stoddard, St. Charles and St. Louis. The executive order also suspends the federal regulatory requirements relating to drivers hours of service requirements.

Blunt also asked the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to issue permits for over-dimension and overweight to commercial motor carriers engaged in relief efforts. An individual seeking to obtain a permit is required to supply MoDOT with the following information: year, make and license plate number of power unit and trailer; size, make and serial number of commodity being transported; origin, destination and consecutive routing; overall width, height, length and length of trailer and load only; and date of movement. The permit process can be expedited by calling (800) 877-8499, (573) 526-5314 or (573) 526-5312.

The executive order is effective today and remains in effect until May 3, 2006.
