Blunt Mobilizes Missouri National Guard to Provide Security Support
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt has mobilized approximately 50 Citizen-Soldiers from the Missouri National Guard’s 1137th Military Police Company, in Kennett, Portageville and Doniphan, to support tornado recovery efforts in the Caruthersville area.
“The Citizen-Soldiers called to service today will provide much needed support to areas devastated by yesterday's storms,” Blunt said. “They will assist local law enforcement and aide affected communities as they begin to recover from this horrible disaster.”
The Soldiers have been requested to support local authorities with security augmentation and will report to the Kennett armory today. The initial state emergency duty orders call the Soldiers to report for 72 hours, unless otherwise directed by the governor.
“These Soldiers are anxious to help their neighbors through this emergency,” said Maj. Gen. King Sidwell, adjutant general of the Missouri National Guard. “This is what the Hometown Guard represents.”
This mobilization is a result of Blunt’s executive order 06-15, signed earlier today to authorize activation of the Missouri National Guard.
