Blunt Focuses Efforts in Response to Weekend Storms, Issues Two Executive Orders

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt issued two executive orders this morning in response to the latest round of severe weather to strike Missouri. The storm damage was centered in east central and southeast Missouri.

“My thoughts and prayers are with those who lost loved ones, their homes and possessions because of yesterday’s outbreak of severe weather,” Blunt said. “These executive orders will assist in recovery efforts by ensuring families, businesses and communities affected by the devastating storms have access to any and all available resources.”

Executive Order 06-14 declares a state of emergency and activates the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan and directs state agencies to provide support in affected areas as needed. Executive Order 06-15 authorizes the activation of the Missouri National Guard to provide assistance.

Three deaths have been confirmed due to the latest outbreak of severe weather, and the state has received numerous reports of injuries and damage to homes and property. Blunt is in contact with the State Emergency Management Agency and Department of Public Safety as damage reports continue to be received.

The executive orders are available on the Governor’s website at http://gov.missouri.gov/index.htm.
