Blunt Appoints Gach to Transportation Commission

ST. JOSEPH—Gov. Matt Blunt today announced the appointment of David A. Gach (D) of St. Joseph to serve on the State Highway and Transportation Commission.

"David Gach brings a successful background as a small businessman who has made significant contributions to his community to the Missouri State Highway and Transportation Commission," Blunt said. “I know he will work well with the other five members of the Commission as they strive to improve our state’s roads, bridges and other modes of transportation."

Gach, 58, owns Dave’s Diesel Service, Inc., which is an authorized Caterpillar and Cummins engine warranty dealer. Gach also manages a land excavation company, leases commercial property and owns several acres of farmland.

Gach is a current member of the St. Joseph’s Mayor’s Smart Growth Committee and the Missouri Motor Carriers Association. He volunteers his time at St. Francis Xavier Parish and Habitat for Humanity.

Gach’s appointment marks the first time in more than 25 years the St. Joseph region has had representation on the commission. The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. Gach will replace Rev. Wallace Hartsfield whose term expired in March.

The State Highway and Transportation Commission is a six-member bipartisan board that guides the Missouri Department of Transportation. Commission members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Missouri Senate. No more than three commission members may be of the same political party. The term on the commission is six years.
