Blunt Congratulates University of Central Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today offered the University of Central Missouri his congratulations and his hope that soon they could set to work on capital projects included in his Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative.

“I congratulate the University of Central Missouri and look forward to new opportunities for this great institution,” Blunt said. “Their vision involves delivering a world-class education; my vision through the Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative provides our public institutions, including UCM, the tools they need to eliminate barriers to learning and provide a world class education for Missouri students.”

The University of Central Missouri is slated to receive $13.2 million under Blunt’s bold initiative. The money included in his groundbreaking plan would move them towards their new vision: “becoming a nationally recognized, comprehensive university that delivers a world-class university education….” The money would enhance student opportunities and experiences, through classroom renovation, labs and general repairs for health education programs.

Blunt is a strong proponent of higher education. His most recent budget included a significant $20 million increase for Missouri’s public institutions and scholarships. The Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative enjoys the support of public university and college presidents across the state and will provide $335 million for higher education capital improvement projects as well as $15 million for the Missouri Technology Corporation to bridge the gap between research and entrepreneurial opportunities for new technologies. In addition to this $350 million, contributed by MOHELA, the state will provide more than $25 million every year for student scholarships from general revenue.
