Blunt Commends House Passage of Utilicare Supplemental
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today commended the Missouri House of Representatives for passing an emergency supplemental bill for Utilicare.
In a display of bipartisanship, the House overwhelmingly passed House Bill 1015 by 150 to 0. Blunt urges the Senate to quickly pass this emergency supplemental bill next week so funds will be available to help low-income and elderly Missourians with their winter heating bills.
"I am pleased the House has responded quickly and favorably to my request to provide this assistance to our fellow Missourians in need," Blunt said. "I encourage the Senate to quickly follow suit and commend members of both bodies for their attention to this issue."
Missouri’s Utilicare program was created in 1979 to help Missourians with winter heating costs but has not received any funding since 2001. Blunt has repeatedly said it is essential that Missouri’s elected officials quickly pass this legislation in the opening weeks of session, so that Missouri will be able to provide assistance to those in need during the cold winter months.
