Blunt Honors Sacrifices of Missouri Veterans During Capitol Bill Signings

Jefferson City–Gov. Matt Blunt today signed bills honoring Missouri’s veterans in his Capitol office.

"We can never fully repay our veteran’s and their families for the sacrifices they have made to secure our freedom, but through actions like these we can assure that current and future generations will be mindful of the contributions Missouri’s heroes have made to our state and nation," Blunt said.

Blunt signed the following legislation honoring Missouri’s veterans.

HB 163, sponsored by Rep. Joe Smith, extends the World War II and Korean conflict medal program in order for Missouri to continue to honor these veterans and their families.

HB 236, sponsored by Rep. Jack Goodman, names the Pierce City armory the Lawrence A. Witt National Guard Armory. Pfc. Lawrence Witt of the U.S. Army Infantry was killed in action in Germany during World War II.

HB 243, sponsored by Rep. Bob May, designates a portion of U.S. Highway 63 starting at the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and the 38th parallel and extending one mile south the "Korean War Veterans Association Memorial Highway." The Korean War is called the Forgotten War and this highway designation serves as a reminder of the veterans who fought during this war and of the establishment of the demilitarized zone at the 38th parallel.

HB 348, sponsored by Rep. David Pearce, is the companion bill to SB 252 which has already been signed and established the Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission.
