Blunt Congratulates State Employees on Successful Charitable Campaign

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt applauded state employees for their outstanding generosity and support of the 2006 Missouri State Employees Charitable Campaign (MSECC) today at a ceremony in his office.

At the ceremony, Commissioner of Administration Michael Keathley, announced that employee donations statewide totaled $1,013,774.

“Missouri state employees are well known for their generous gifts to those who are in need of the services provided by organizations funded through the charitable campaign. State employees are good and caring people, and the success of this campaign demonstrates the compassion they have,” Blunt said.   “Many agencies held additional campaigns to address the immediate needs of Hurricane Katrina victims.  Missouri state employees truly lead by example, and charity organizations around the state and nation benefit from their generosity.”

This year’s campaign exceeded the $1 million threshold for the fifth time in twenty-one years.  More than 8,630 state employees pledged donations to charitable organizations through the MSECC.

“Collectively, as state employees we are able to meet more needs, regardless of the size of our gifts.  This is the key to a successful campaign,” said Gayla Vandelicht, campaign manager.  “Many organizations depend on MSECC to fund most of their operations for the year and we have not disappointed them.”

During the past 21 years, state employees have donated nearly $17.5 million to organizations through the MSECC.  Through the campaign effort, 25 United Way chapters in Missouri will receive more than $527,000.  More than $885,000 will be distributed to charitable organizations in Missouri, and the remaining funds will go to national and international charities.

The statewide charitable campaign gives employees an opportunity to donate to more than one thousand charitable organizations through payroll deduction or one-time donations.
